Mason Thames breaks 30-year record of A-lister Jim Carrey

Mason Thames, the rising star of Hollywood, has achieved a huge milestone in just 18-years-old.

Thames has achieved three number one box office hits in a single year, a victory which was last achieved by accomplished by Jim Carrey in 1994, as per by Hola!.

The breakthrough moment happened during the Halloween weekend, where Thames firmly established a new record.

His year began with the summer release of the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, which grossed $636 million worldwide.

Following that in October, Black Phone 2, the sequel to Thames’s debut film, surpassed $104 million globally, making it one of only six horror films in 2025 to exceed $100 million.

He completed his success with the recently released Regretting You, a Colleen Hoover adaptation featuring Thames in a romantic lead role, has become one of the year’s most successful love stories, earning $50 million worldwide.

This big success mirrors Carrey's 1994 success, when Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber all reached the Number one spot.

For 30 years, no actor had managed to replicate this until Thames.

As of now, while Thames has seemingly wrapped up his 2025 films, as per the IMDb, he has two more films on the way: The Shitheads, which is in post-production, and How to Train Your Dragon 2, which is slated for 2026.
