Meghan Markle has taken a surprising U-turn in her career prospects as she finally ended her eight-year long hiatus in acting and returned to set.
The Duchess of Sussex, who has been working on her lifestyle brand As Ever and indulging in other medium like podcasts, has gone back to her roots. However, experts believe that this was not part of her original plan, in fact she was forced into it.
Before getting married to Prince Harry, Meghan had starred in the hit legal drama Suits for six seasons as the paralegal-turned-lawyer Rachel Zane. According to a report by Daily Mail’s Alison Boshoff, the the financial strain on the Sussexes pushed the Duchess back into acting.
“This was never in her plan,” a source told the editor. “This confirms it. They are poor.”
Back in 2022, Meghan had sternly said in her interview with Variety magazine that her acting days are over. “I’m done. I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not.”
The insider also pointed that Meghan’s new role in the movie, Close Personal Friends, is a small role and doesn’t really put her acting skills to the test. She will be playing herself in the cameo part.
Meanwhile, it is important to note that Prince Harry, during his UK visit in September, had made a personal donation of £1.1 million to BBC Children in Need, to support projects tackling youth violence in Nottingham. This was a huge amount ever donated by a royal member in their personal capacity.
The Sussexes also made substantial donations to relief efforts following Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica. Hence, it would appear that money is not really a big problem for Meghan and Harry at this point in time.
Another source close to Meghan told Alison, that this is purely the 44-year-old’s testing the waters once again. Since she has been trying a lot of professional options from her lifestyle brand to podcast and cookery shows, she is experimenting with various endeavours to see what will make her succeed.
