Apple has launched a fully redesigned web interface for its App Store, transforming it from a collection of lead capture pages into a functional storefront for people who aren't viewing the store on Apple devices.
Formerly, users could only view individual app pages on the web, usually by following links from search engines without the ability to browse the App Store directly.
It has been observed that while navigating to an iOS app’s store page on a MacBook would open the native App Store application; conversely the same action would often lead to an impasse on non-Apple devices.
The new App Store interface lets users search for applications by category and by platform, including distinct sections for apps on the iPhone, iPad, and other devices.
It is clear that users cannot currently download applications from the web, and this functionality might be added later.
The new design underscores Apple’s persistent push to mitigate obstacles for app discovery.
This step has made company products available beyond its own ecosystem, specifically for users, developers, and researchers who are outside the Apple ecosystem.
