Asia tour fuels speculation over Trump, Kim Jong-un meeting

The US President has begun his whirlwind five-day Asia tour where he is expected to participate in highly-anticipated trade talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

The highly-awaiting tour also fuels speculations of Trump and Kim Jong-un meeting to discuss the security situation in the region.

Trump, who left Washington on Friday night, is set to make a stay in Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea, marking the first visit to the region since taking office in January.

While talking to the reporters onboard Air Force Once, the President said, “I would. If you want to put out the word, I'm open to it. And he had a great relationship with Kim.”

The reporters also discussed North Korea’s precondition for a dialogue with the US which includes the recognition of the country as a nuclear state.

In response Trump replied, “Well, I think they are sort of a nuclear power.

“When you say they have to be recognised as a nuclear power, well, they got a lot of nuclear weapons, I’ll say that.”

Donald Trump met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in 2019, making history and becoming the first sitting US president to set foot into North Korea.
