Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her husband Abhishek have criticised AI platforms for threatening their profession.
The 51-year-actress, who rose to fame after winning the Miss World 1994 pageant, filed a petition against the circulation of “completely unreal intimate photographs.”
Her lawyer, Sandeep Sethi, stated, “Her name and likeness is being used to satisfy someone’s sexual desires. This is very unfortunate.”
Similarly, Abhishek, 49, followed in his wife’s footsteps by filing a suit against websites using his name to promote products, just two days after Aishwarya’s appeal.
The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai filmmaker also petitioned the court to block the unauthorised use of his image, voice, and even memes based on his nickname like, “KJo,” which he argued is being commercially exploited.
In response to Aishwarya’s plea, Justice Tejas Karia noted in his order, “When the identity of a famous personality is used without their consent or authorization, it may not only lead to commercial detriment to the concerned individual but also impact their right to live with dignity.
“The courts in such cases of unauthorised exploitation of one’s personality rights, cannot turn a blind-eye to the same and shall protect the aggrieved parties so as to avert any harm to them resulting from the said unauthorised exploitation.”
For the unversed, the Devdas star filed the petition on Tuesday, September 9.
