The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) assisted by Montgomery County police conducted a major raid on the house of the United States (U.S.) President Trump’s former aide John Bolton.

John Bolton, who served as National Security Advisor during Trump’s first term, had his house raided shortly before 7:00 a.m. on Friday, August 22, morning.

FBI Director Kash Patel hinted at the raid in an X post as it was underway. He wrote, “NO ONE is above the law. FBI agents on mission.”

Streets near the Bolton’s residence were sealed and an unmarked SUV parked in front of his house, later the Montgomery County police confirmed that they were assisting the FBI in their action.

Why is Bolton under investigation?

The 76-year-old attorney and former United States ambassador to the United Nations is accused of leaking classified information in his memoir titled The Room Where It Happened, published in 2020.

President Trump terminated his security clearance on January 20, immediately after getting into the Oval Office.

Bolton served as US National Security Advisor from April 9, 2018 till September 10, 2019.

The case stems from his early publishing of the book while the National Security Council’s (NSC) review of the manuscript was still pending. Previously, the government has tried to pursue criminal charges in the US vs Bolton initial civil action.

Inquiry against him was dropped when Department of Justice (DOJ) leadership was changed under President Joe Biden in June 2021.

Since Trump returned to the White House as the 47th president, his administration has withdrawn Bolton’s security detail and revived the investigation with Friday’s FBI raid.
