Sara Ali Khan opens up about feeling 'empty' as movie roles became more intellectual

Sara Ali Khan confessed that she got confused about when to think deeply because her movie choices were getting more intellectual, resulting in a sense of emptiness.

During a conversation with Film Companion, the 28-year-old actress expressed that as people witnessed her "unadulterated" self early in her career, they found themselves perplexed by her evolving persona on social media and in interviews.

The Love Aaj Kal actress also acknowledged feeling like she had disappointed herself.

Sara shared, “People saw through me when I was trying to do something that didn’t come necessarily from the heart. Because then, you are leaving yourself open to comparison."

"Because I have given the audience, the media, just people in general, a very unadulterated, a very honest version of myself, very early in my career, I started feeling very empty. I started feeling very let down by myself.”

Sara also expressed that she used to rely heavily on her instinctive decision-making, but gradually, it began to transition towards a more analytical approach.

The Murder Mubarak actress said, “And I realised that that was not working for me for starters. So when you ask me, how do you filter the noise? I don’t know, but I know that when you are inauthentic, your body signals it to you.”

“The opinions stopped being the mirror of the gut and they started being the reflection of the brain, and I don’t want that all the time."

"You have to know when to use your brain, which is something I forgot, because I was reliant on the brain constantly that it started replacing the lack of a gut, which can’t happen,” she added.

Sara Ali Khan was last seen in two back to back films, Murder Mubarak, released on March 15, and Ae Watan Mere Watan, released in March 21, 2024.
