Jaya Bachchan finds the internet to be a "source of validation" for the younger generation as apparent in the latest episode of the vodcast What The Hell Navya Season 2.
Speaking to her granddaughter, Navya Naveli Nanda, Jaya shared her thoughts and talked about Gen Z responding to calls and text messages instantly, becoming a primary source of validation for them.
Jaya emphasized that this constant need for validation regarding appearance and opinions, majorly adds to stress.
Navya asked her grandmother whether life was "less stressful" before the Internet’s existence, to which Jaya instantly nodded, confirming that she "never heard of an anxiety attack in childhood. Let alone in our childhood, we never heard it in our midlife also."
She mentioned that the excessive information shared on the platform, ranging from lifestyle trends to beauty standards, contributes to the increasing levels of stress and anxiety among the younger generation.
Jaya’s daughter, Shweta however, expressed disagreement on her mother’s comment, stating: "I feel that because they are having to cope with so much information blasting on their brain, and they have to keep up and have to do everything just then, it makes them anxious. But it was always there."
Shweta emphasized the increased mental health awareness in society, admitting that it was "always there."
