Randeep Hooda talked about preparing to portray the role of freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in his upcoming film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.
Taking to his Instagram account on Monday, the 47-year-old actor shared a post, featuring a carousel of pictures of himself visiting a cell in Kalapani where Savarkar was imprisoned.
In the pictures, he could be seen inside the cell, with his hands folded towards a framed picture of Savarkar.
Another photo depicted Randeep sitting on the floor and looking upwards, while he also included the film's poster in the post.
In the caption, the Highway star revealed that he had spent time locked up in the jail to experience what Savarkar might have felt in that cell.
Randeep penned, "Today is the punyatithi of one of the greatest sons of Bharat Mata. Leader, Fearless Freedom Fighter, Writer, Philosopher & Visionary #SawatantryaVeerSavarkar. A man whose towering intellect and fierce courage scared the British so much that they locked him in this 7 by 11 foot jail in Kalapani for two life times (50 years)."
He further revealed about his experience, noting, "During the recce on his biopic I tried to lock myself inside this cell to feel what he must have gone through. I couldn’t stay locked for even 20 minutes where he was locked for 11 years often in solitary confinement."
Talking about the legacy of Savarkar, the Radhe actor wrote, "I imagined the unparalleled endurance of #VeerSavarkar who endured the cruelty and inhuman conditions of the imprisonment and yet managed to build and inspire the armed revolution."
"His perseverance and contribution is unmatchable hence for decades the Anti India forces still continue to vilify him....Naman," he added.
Swatantrya Veer Savarkar will be released on March 22, 2024.
