The much-awaited trailer of Karan Johar’s romedy, Kapoor and Sons, released yesterday amidst immense hype from instagrammers, bloggers and the cast members, on both sides of the border. The film holds a special place in the hearts of Pakistanis for obvious reasons – it stars homegrown heartthrob Fawad Khan alongside Bollywood young guns Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra.

The film holds a special place in the hearts of Pakistanis for obvious reasons – it stars homegrown heartthrob Fawad Khan alongside Bollywood young guns Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra. However, while Fawad looks dapper and his versatility as an actor shows on screen in the two minutes 54 seconds trailer, the story seems to be nothing that we haven’t seen before.
A love triangle intertwined in the madness of a dysfunctional family and what follows is a story of love, loss and familial ties – these are themes that one has seen Bollywood explore time and again. In fact, dysfunctional families and their reunions resonate K Jo’s signature (Read: Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Kal Ho Na Ho). However, it still remains to be seen whether the film is as clichéd as it comes across from the trailer. The cast, on the other hand, is one exciting bunch to look forward to. We will finally get to see Fawad break away from his sophisticated, royal image and show some hard core, angry young man emotions on the big screen. The real shining star, on the other hand, is Rishi Kapoor as the grandfather and he really steals the show with his comic timing in the introductory scene of the trailer. The love-hate relationship between the two brothers, Sidharth and Fawad, is another strong feature to look forward to in the film. Kapoor & Sons is scheduled to release on March 18.
