Except for Marvel’s Doctor Strange, almost all superhero films releasing this year are focused on the superhero vs. superhero battle. If Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice wasn’t enough, there’s also Captain America: Civil War and X: Men Apocalypse that will pit superheroes against one another. You’d think all this would cause some fatigue in fans and maybe even the studios backing these cinematic escapades but that’s not the case, at least not with the folks behind Batman. So what if it looks like the film was shot in LOTR’s Mordor? Batman is Batman. Maybe that’s the logic that has inspired Ben Affleck to spearhead another Batman film. Despite the criticism for Batman v. Superman, the box office numbers suggest that the film is a success. Having collected 800 million dollars worldwide, the Batman juggernaut will stay with Affleck for a few years. He will direct and star in a solo Batman film and feature in the Justice League films as well. In fact, the solo Batman film will also serve as an explanation for Batman’s actions in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Yawn.
