LAHORE
Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court Monday referred to Chief Justice for fixing before another bench a petition challenging new taxes on cars and vehicles.
The judge referred the petition to other bench on request of a petitioner. Petitioner made the request as the judge was hearing election matters so it should be fixed before some other petition. Judge deferred the hearing till September 14.
A lawyer moved the petition submitting that the government had imposed many taxes on vehicles taxes including the registration fee and other taxes. He alleged that the government instead of spending the tax income on public welfare had been using it for its own protocol, which was illegal. He submitted that the government had miserably failed to provide free medicine at hospitals while gave an ad on newspapers to collect ‘donation’ for 1122.
