KP govt to give 10m deserving families Rs12,000 each
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to provide Rs12,000 each to 10 million deserving families under Zakat fund, with a total cost of Rs1.2 billion.
As per an official communiqué, the amount will be disbursed in two equal installments. This package is apart from the relief package already approved by the provincial government to be provided through Ihsas Program. This was decided in a meeting of Zakat and Social Welfare Department here on Monday, with Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in the chair. The meeting was attended by chairman of the Provincial Zakat Committee, secretary Social Welfare and other relevant officials.
The meeting was told that 29000 deserving families of the province had already been registered for the package, while the rest of the families were being registered on emergency basis.
The meeting was informed that identification of the deserving families will be made through the local Zakat committees, followed by scrutiny process to ensure that only deserving families benefit the package.
The chief minister directed the relevant quarters to start disbursement to the already registered families and initiate the registration process of the remaining families without any delay. He directed the officials of the Social Welfare Department to ensure transparency in the distribution of the package in all respects. Mahmood Khan said the provincial government realised the difficulties being faced by the people due to the prevailing situation.
He reiterated that all the available resources would be used to mitigate the sufferings of the general public. The chief minister said the government was also considering the provision of free food baskets to the residents of the locked-down areas of the province.
