KARACHI: A 21-member KMC cricket team was selected through open trials held at Rashid Lateef Cricket Academy in Gulberg here on Wednesday.
The KMC’s Culture, Sports and Recreation (CSR) department organised the trials, conducted by former Test cricketer Azam Khan, who is also the PCB head coach of Karachi region, Asim Rizvi who is a coach of PCB Karachi region, and Zafar Ahmed who is a former first class cricketer.
More than 70 aspiring KMC employees from various departments appeared in the trials.
Senior director CSR Raza Abbas Rizvi was also present on the occasion.
The KMC cricket team has been revived after around two decades due to the efforts of its senior director who himself wanted to revive sports activities in the city.
Raza told reporters that a transparent mechanism had been established to select the KMC team and claimed that there was no favouritism.
He said that KMC cricket team would participate in inter-departmental tournaments and proper facilities for training and coaching would be provided to it. He hoped that KMC team would perform well in the local competitions.
KMC squad: Muhammad Afzal, Nazim Wahab, Abid Ali, Asim Imam, Kamran Ali, Farhan Ali, Nasir Ahmed, Muhammad Salman, Salman Ahmed, Muhammad Rashid, Faraz Khan, Najam Wahab, Shahmsul Haq, Akhtar Hussain, Naeem Yousuf, Muhamamd Shakeel, Muhammad Ismail, Farrukh Rizvi, Fareeduddin, Muhammad Raza, and Ijaz Taj.
