The 99th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York kicks off with a bang

Buzz Lightyear, Pikachu, and other iconic characters were inflated on Wednesday (November 26), ahead of the 99th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.

“The balloon inflation event for the Macy's parade has become its own special event here in New York. Over a million people come to see the balloons up close and personal,” said Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade spokesperson, Orlando Veras.

A total of 34 balloons are set to grace the streets on Thursday (November 27). Among the spectators was 4-year-old Sebastian, thrilled to see the balloons with his family. "I like balloons because they are really big," Sebastian said.

“It’s exciting,” said 6-year-old, Ted Shanahan, whose favorite is Extraordinary Noorah balloons.

This year introduces Buzz Lightyear as a new participant, with viral toy Labubu making its float debut.

“It's all about the kids and family. And I just enjoying everything the city has to offer,” said Joyce Pannone who came from Long Island, New York with her daughter and grandchildren.“Fabulous time of the year to be in New York City,” Pannone said.

The parade starts at 8:30 a.m. ET on Thursday at West 77th Street and Central Park West, concluding at Macy's Herald Square on 34th Street at noon.

“Something to see for everyone. And we expect three and a half million people to see it (Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade) in person and over 30 million watching it on television,” said Veras.
