Watch: Couple climb Empire State Building for sky-high proposal

A dramatic marriage proposal just took place atop New York City's iconic Empire State Building on 1 July 2026, when urban climbers Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus scaled the skyscraper's 443-metre antenna spire without safety equipment.

The couple, dressed in black, hugged after Beerkus proposed to his partner next to the state's red-glowing beacon.

The stunts gained much popularity on social media as videos showed the duo climbing up to the top of Manhattan. Later, the couple were taken into custody by the authorities for conducting an unauthorised climb on the most famous landmark in the world.
