The mercury dropped to the single digit for the first time in the current year in Karachi during the night between Monday and Tuesday when 9.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in the city under the influence of the Siberian winds, Pakistan Meteorological Department officials said on Tuesday.

“The mercury dropped to 9.5 degrees Celsius on the night between Monday and Tuesday in Karachi under the influence of the Siberian winds that have gripped the entire country and the rest of the region at the moment,” said Sardar Sarfraz, Sindh’s chief meteorological officer, while talking to The News.

PMD officials said Karachi was likely to experience cold nights for the next 72 hours, as they were expecting the temperature to drop between 8 and 9 degrees Celsius in the nights, adding that the maximum temperature is expected to remain between 25 and 26 degrees Celsius.

Entire Pakistan is in the grip of dry and cold weather with snowfall being reported from the hilly areas of the country, while the temperature in the plains of Sindh, Balochistan and Punjab has fallen very low under the influence of the Siberian winds.
