LAHORE: The Punjab and federal governments were ordered by the Lahore High Court to explain why the sale of videos of the Kasur scandal was not stopped.
Justice Anwaarul Haq of the LHC passed the order on a petition filed by Judicial Activism Penal chairman Azhar Siddique. The judge adjourned the hearing until Sept 18.
The lawyer-petitioner told the judge that the sale of the videos was not only a violation of the Constitution but also against Islamic teachings. Despite the national outcry on the issue, their sale is alarming and shows the interest of authorities concerned regarding their role in removing the videos from the access of citizens.
He pointed out the FIA, PTA and police had failed to perform their duties to stop the production of the videos and their sale. He requested the judge to order the government to remove the videos from market and take action against the accused involved in their making and marketing. Justice Anwaar issued notices to the Punjab and federal governments on the next hearing.
