Remarks against Senate chairman: PPP to move privilege motion against PM
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to take up the issue of remarks of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani in the upcoming session of the Senate and will ask him to withdraw these remarks and tender apology on it and if he does not do so then the privilege motion will be filed against him.
According to PPP, if the remarks were not withdrawn then the PPP along with the other opposition parties in the Senate will file the privilege motion against the prime minister as these remarks were not only against the elected chairman Senate, who holds the constitutional office, but also breach the privilege of the Senate, which is a symbol of Federation.
Opposition leader in the Senate Sherry Rehman is in contact with the opposition parties in the Upper House of the Parliament to take the joint strategy to force the government for withdrawal of these remarks on Senate chairman.
Sources said as it was decided that the government be approached through Leader of the House in the Senate Raja Zafarul Haq to convey the opposition’s serious reservations on the remarks of prime minister for the chairman Senate, which is constitutional office and these remarks were breach of the Parliament.
“But if the prime minister did not withdraw his remarks then there was no option but to file the privilege motion against him,” the PPP senior leader said.
