ATL 2017 issued
KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Thursday issued the first Active Taxpayers List (ATL) for the tax year 2017, showing an increase of 25 percent in the number of income tax return filers to around 1.26 million as compared to 1.01 million in the first ATL issued a year ago.
The revenue board issues new ATL every year on March 1 and updates it on a weekly basis by including the names of the taxpayers, who filed their returns during the week.
In the last weekly ATL-2016, issued on February 26, the total number of return filers reached 1.42 million, which means around 410,000 returns were filed after the issuance of the ATL, making it 40 percent of the total return filers.
Officials in the FBR said that considering the growth in the number last year, it is estimated that the number of return filers is likely to reach 1.8 million for the tax year 2017 before the issuance of the next ATL.
