The Sindh High Court has taken notice of the torture and harassment of a doctor’s family by an influential feudallord in Kumb, Khairpur district, and summoned law officials in court.
Taking notice of media reports that a landlord had assaulted and maimed Dr Zulfiqar Mangi’s brother and harassed his mother and family members, SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh on Thursday directed the local sessions judge, DIG Sukkur and SSP Khairpur to appear in person along with the progress report of the inquiry on January 15.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, the chief justice directed the Mithi police to submit a progress report in the murder of two Hindu grain traders. According to media reports, brothers Dileep Kumar and Chandar Mehashwari were shot dead on January 5 allegedly by dacoits in Mithi.
The city remained closed as a mark of protest against the police for not arresting the culprits. On Thursday, Mithi police filed a report submitting that efforts were being made to arrest the shooters and seeking more time to do so. The chief justice directed officials to arrest the culprits as soon as possible and submit the report after the investigation is completed.
