Divided we fall

December 15, 2017

As Pakistan nears election year, religious political parties have once again assembled under one umbrella of MMA to attract the religious vote bank of the country. On one hand, it is commendable that religious leaders have moved towards unity by keeping aside all sectarian differences that they had been promoting in the past. But on the other hand, a common Pakistani like me is eager to see such religious harmony in practice for a peaceful and tolerant society rather than just for political mileage.

I will salute these religious political entities if they come forward and boldly condemn all the hatred that they themselves have been spreading in the past against each other’s school of thought. I will salute them if they issue verdicts against those killing in the name of sects, for those spreading hatred in the name of religion and for those who have divided the nation badly through religious cards. If they can join hands for a few seats, why can’t they join hands for nipping the evil bud of sectarianism and extremism?
