Robbers kill labourer on resistance

LAHORE

A 30-year-old manual labourer was shot dead by five robbers in the Kahna Kachah village area on Saturday.

The victim, identified as Imran, hailing from Bhakkar, was living in a rented house in Kahna Kachah village. On the day of the incident, at least five robbers broke into his house and took him and his colleague Shoaib hostage at gunpoint.

Meanwhile, Imran and Shoaib offered resistance, upon which, the robbers fired shots and wounded them. The robbers fled while the victims were removed to hospital where Imran was pronounced dead. The condition of the other victim was stated  to be precarious.

Police have removed the body to morgue.

Two killed in accidents: A man and a woman were killed in separate road accidents on Saturday.

A 40-year-old man, Muhammad Ramazan, hailing from Noshehra, was passing through Sundar Road when a rashly driven truck hit and killed him. Police have removed the body to morgue.

A woman, Ghazala, was killed and her husband, Yaseen, injured by a rashly-driven truck on Bund Road, Sanda. The couple was going on a bike when the truck hit them. As a result, the woman died and her husband sustained critical injuries.

Police probe: Police have started probing the suicide matter of a model, who had reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a fan at Iqbal Town on Saturday night.

Police said that the model, identified as N Malik, had also worked in a movie, yet to be released. She was living with her family in Huma Block. On the day of the incident, she exchanged harsh words with her family members. Later, she closed herself in a room. When a member of her family went into the room, she was found hanging from a fan. Her family informed police. Police removed the body to morgue, collected forensic evidences and registered the statements of the eye-witnesses.

Neighbors told police that they often heard loud voices of quarrel from their house. Police said the model had 11 members in her family. She was at number four in her brothers  and sisters. She was a sole bread earner.

Police were investigating the matter further.

PTI rally: Lahore police took strict security measures for Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf rally on Saturday.  

At least 5,000 police officials, under the supervision of eight SPs and 34 DSPs, were deployed for security of the participants of the rally.

The participants were allowed entry at five points; Shahdara, Bhatti Chowk, Outfall Road, GPO Chowk and Faisal Chowk. All the roads and streets leading to the route of the rally were blocked with barbed wire and containers. 

The PTI leaders criticised police and the government for the blocking the roads, saying it was a tactic to stop their activists from joining the rally.

However, police denied the allegations, saying that the plan was chalked down after cooperation and coordination with the leadership of PTI.

Three-layered security was maintained during the rally. The participants were allowed entry after frisking, checking with metal detectors and passing through walk-through gates. Vehicles were checked at two points.

The route was cleared after checking by Bomb Disposal Squad, Sniffer Dogs and Special Branch before the start of rally. The squads of Quick Response Force, Elite and Dolphin patrolled the nearby areas of the rally to respond immediately in case of any emergency. Snipers were deployed on rooftops to keep an eye on any suspicious activity.

One hundred CCTV cameras were installed on the route to monitor the rally. Senior officers remained on patrolling to check security measures.

Traffic police deployed at least 1,400 wardens,  nine DSPs, 48 inspectors and 160 patrol officers to maintain flow of traffic. Traffic police set diversions at different points, including at the entry points of the City. The Mall was completely blocked for traffic.  

Rescue 1122 deployed 14 rescue ambulances and 10 fire vehicles to respond in case of any emergency.

The rally and the blocking of different roads and streets caused a lot of difficulties to the citizens.  They had to face a lot of trouble while reaching their destinations. Massive traffic jams was observed at entry points of the City especially near Begum Kot. 

A few months old child died when he could not get an ambulance service. The victim was a resident of Shahdara. His condition deteriorated at noon and his father tried to take him to hospital but could not get an ambulance or any other vehicle to reach hospital.

Kashif, a lawyer, said that he lived in Garhi Shahu and had to travel at least five miles extra to reach courts because roads was blocked. Movement of citizens living in nearby areas of the route from Shahdara to The Mall was badly interrupted.

A few altercations  between the PTI activists and police were also observed. At Bhatti Gate, a group of protestors stopped a vehicle of an officer of City Traffic Police. however, he was allowed to leave after some time.  

No untoward incident was reported till the filing of this report

fire: Two people were injured in fire erupted in a flat in Mozang on Saturday.

Rescue officials said that a fire broke out on the third floor of block of flats near Qartaba Chowk.

The residents tried to put it out  but failed. On which, they called rescue teams who put out the fire. Rescue teams admitted the injured to hospital.

One of the victim was identified as Hammad. Rescue officials said that the cause of the fire was yet to be known.

Arrested: Gulberg police claimed to have arrested a person with forfeited  currency notes on Saturday.

Police said police checked the man on suspicion on Main Boulevard. On search, they found forfeited notes of Rs 500 worth thousands of rupees. Police arrested the suspect, Muhammad Shafqat and registered a case against him
