Rescue truck hits live wire; driver dies

LAHORE

A driver of Rescue 1122 was electrocuted while two rescuers sustained burns when their truck was struck with a high voltage live wire in the Iqbal Town Police jurisdiction on Wednesday.  

The body was handed over to the victim’s family after completing legal formalities. The deceased was identified as Mudassar of Kachi Abadi.

The rescuers were on their way on fire truck LF-30 and when they reached near Raza Block Iqbal Town, a high tension wire hanging low entangled with the truck.

As a result, the driver and two rescuers received severe electric shocks. The truck also reduced to ashes as the fire had erupted. Rescue teams rushed the scene after being informed and carried rescue operation.

The victims were shifted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital where driver Mudassar succumbed to his injuries while the condition of two rescuers Shahzad Jabbar and Hammad was stated to be out of danger. Director General, Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122), Dr Arshad Zia and Director General, Emergency Services Academy, Amir Hamza along with Deputy Director (P&D) Faheem Ahmad Qureshi and Deputy Director (HR&A) Dr Foaad Shahzad Mirza visited the hospital.

The martyr rescuer shall be given guard of honour from Rescue 1122 Headquarters. The DG said Mudassar rendered his services with honesty, dedication and devotion since the emergency service has been established. He sacrificed his life in the line of duty and got martyr. Rescue 1122 shall provide all financial and moral support to the martyr’s family.

The Emergency Service shall also appoint one of his legal heirs as per government policy.

The injured rescuers shall also be given compensation from the service.

Lesco claimed that the accident was caused by reckless driving of emergency service vehicle who did not notice overhead wire and the fire-fight equipment entangled with the wire.

GIRL FALLS TO DEATH: An 18-year-old girl died after she fell from rooftop of her home in the Lohari Gate Police limits. Police said the deceased was identified as Yazdan Bibi of Sooter Mandi. 

BODY FOUND: A 35-year-old woman was tortured to death in Defence (A) Police area. Police said victim Shazia was found dead in the quarters of Charar Pind.

The body was shifted to City morgue for autopsy. 

SP: SP Mujahid Syed Qarar Husain said that for the enhancement of community policing every possible step has been taken.

He appealed to citizens to inform police at Rescue 15 in case of any accident, fighting, traffic accidents, fire and suspected persons.

Police will take action quickly. He specially requested citizens to inform police if any child was kidnapped because sometimes citizens torture the alleged kidnapper and it creates nuisance.
