First batch completes IT training at GIK Institute

SWABI: The first batch of students has successfully completed a six-month IT training programme under the Prime Minister’s High Impact IT Training Initiative at the GIK Institute’s IT Training Centre.

The programme was a collaborative effort between the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences, the Federal Ministry of Education, and the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC).

A total of 56 students were awarded certificates at a ceremony held on Thursday. The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including Engr Salim Saifullah Khan, president of the Society for the Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Pakistan (SOPREST), who was the chief guest. Also present were Shakil Durrani, executive director SOPREST; Aamir Jan, Executive Director NAVTTC; Acting Rector Prof. Dr. S.M. Hasan Zaidi; Pro-Rector Sardar Aminullah Khan, along with deans, department heads, directors, and students.

Speaking on the occasion, Salim Saifullah Khan highlighted the importance of contemporary IT knowledge in today’s rapidly evolving digital world. He emphasized that Rs 40 million had been invested to establish the IT center, which focuses on training students in emerging technologies such as Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning.

He also acknowledged the contributions of Mohiuddin Wani, secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, and NAVTTC, while expressing concern over the lack of investment in Pakistan’s human resource development compared to countries like Malaysia and Singapore.

Paying tribute to the late president Ghulam Ishaq Khan and eminent scientist Dr AQ Khan, he recalled their instrumental role in establishing GIK Institute. He further revealed plans to set up another GIK Institute in Islamabad, aiming to extend quality education to students in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.“We believe in merit and transparency, and our goal is to expand our outreach for the betterment of students,” he added.
