Pacers put Sialkot ahead in Quaid Trophy
LAHORE: Peshawar team was bowled out for 171 runs in the first innings due to the excellent performance of Sialkot bowlers on the first day of the first match of the tri-nation phase of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
Owais Ali and Muhammad Ali took four wickets each. Sialkot scored 74 runs in their first innings without any loss at the end of the game. On the opening day the four-day match at the Abbottabad Stadium on Tuesday, Peshawar captain Sajid Khan won the toss and decided to bat first, but due to the lack of a big partnership, the Peshawar team could not reach a big score.
They lost 3 wickets for a total score of 53 runs, including the wicket of Waqar Ahmed, who scored 400 runs in this tournament with the help of a century and four half-centuries, who could only make 7 runs. Peshawar’s fourth wicket fell for a total score of 83 runs when top scorer Ubaidullah was out for 35 runs with the help of 8 fours.
Before the lunch break, Peshawar’s team had also lost its fifth wicket for a total score of 93. And in the second session, Peshawar’s last 5 wickets could add only 55 runs to the score. Sialkot began its first innings confidently with Asher Mahmood and Azan Owais added 74 runs to their partnership when the game was called off early due to poor light. Asher Mahmood was not out on 31 runs with the help of 5 fours. Azan Owais was at the crease on 38 runs with 6 fours in his innings.
It may be recalled that at the end of the group matches of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, the top teams of the three groups Sialkot, Peshawar and Lahore Whites have qualified for the tri-nation stage.
The second match of this stage will be played between Lahore Whites and Peshawar in Abbottabad from December 2, while Lahore Whites and Sialkot will face each other in the last match of the tri-nation stage on December 27. The top two teams of the tri-nation stage will make it to the final which will be played from January 2.
