Two killed, 32 injured in motorway accident

Ten of the injured persons were stated to be in a precarious condition, who shifted to hospitals in Peshawar and Mardan Medical Complex

NOWSHERA: Two persons, including a woman, died and 32 others sustained injuries when a passenger bus turned turtle on Motorway (M-1) near Rashakai on Saturday.

Ten of the injured persons were stated to be in a precarious condition, who shifted to hospitals in Peshawar and Mardan Medical Complex in Mardan for medical treatment.

Station House Officer Daud Khan, Sub-Inspector Patrolling Motorway Officer Ahmad Ali Khan told reporters that passenger bus TAD-222 was going to Karachi. They said that bus driver Younas, a resident of Ziarat Kaka Sahib, and his helpers Inamullah and Hamza Khan exchanged harsh words with each other and later resorted to physical brawl near Rashakai.

The officials added that the bus got out of control due to a scuffle between driver and his helpers, hitting the maiden before falling on the other side of the motorway.

As a result, helper Inamullah and a woman named Qurban, a resident of Mazar-e-Sharif in Afghanistan, were killed and 32 other passengers sustained injuries.

Some of the seriously injured persons were identified as driver Younas, Muhammad Khalil, Hina, Dani Bakhsh, Hamza and his namesake, Fatima Saeed, Shahid Rahman, Zahida and Ziaul Haq. The seriously wounded persons were shifted to MMC and hospital in Peshawar while 22 others were admitted to local hospitals. The police have registered a case against the driver of the bus.
