Bad hair day? Not today!

Hair

Vaccinated or not, we are still required to put a face mask on most of the times. With more than half of your face covered, your hair now has a little more spotlight than before. However, figuring out what to do with your hair can be a tedious task. And if you happen to be one of the lazy girls who hate doing their hair in the morning, we totally get it. We love to rock great hair but putting effort into it feels like too much work. But, fret not, we’ve got you covered. This week You! shares some quick hairstyles and some easy peasy tips to do your hair in the morning…

The messier the better

Let’s talk about our one-true-love: messy buns. These tousled topknots are everything on mornings where we’re crunched for time. However, not all styles are created equal. To make your OG hairstyle more fashion-forward, it’s all about creating your perfect hairstyle that looks effortless instead of lazy. To do this, you’re going to create volume and texture at your base to give your style a more dimensional look. Flipping your hair forward, spray on a lightweight hairspray for additional hold and lift, grab your hair as if you are creating a ponytail, and flip your hair back to create a messy bun. This upside-down technique adds lift to your roots and gives your style a more lived-in appearance.

If you have curly hair, this style looks even more gorgeous. Create the messy bun at the crown of the head with a few loose, face-framing pieces pulled out – and it’ll take you, like, two mins max. And, viola!

The romantic updo

If messy buns are not your style, we have a bun that you might like. And this hairstyle will take your bun to the next level. All you have to do is put your hair in pigtails and then tie it into a knot. After that, you wrap the remaining hair around to form a bun, adding bobby pins and hairspray to help keep it in place. This look is an easy way to make your hair look a little bit more professional too if you wanted to wear it to work or a date.

The half-ups

Remember those days when half-ponies were all the rage? Well, they’re still one and we’re adding a twist to it. This will work on any hair texture and will come out looking like you put in a lot more effort than you actually did. Gather some hair at the back of your crown area and braid it, loosely. After braiding, massage the sides of the braid to make it appear fuller and that’s your hairstyle. It will add a little something extra if you’re wearing your hair down and don’t really feel like doing anything else to it.

Let the accessories talk

For those who want to look extra fancy but don’t care enough to pull out their hot tools, it’s time to make hair accessories your BFF. For girls-on-the-go, hair accessories make it look like you gave your hair some extra effort without really having to. Let’s start with some classics, like the half-pony, where you add your favourite clip or barrette.

And when it comes to hair clips and bobby pins, the style options are endless. You could part your hair in the middle and stack six to eight bobby pins on top of your left ear; or you could take two jewelled bobby pins and place one on each side of your part. Literally, whatever your heart desires.

Another thing that you can do is add a scarf to mane. You can either wrap it around your topknot or braid it along your hair, or just simply wear it like a bandana.

Hair care tips:

We understand that you want to look and feel great, but we also want you to have perfectly shiny, healthy and untangled hair. In a rush to style our hair for a couple of hours, we can sometimes cause a lot of damage. To avoid that, there are some tips that you should remember when you are styling your mane…

  • Brushing is always necessary, but don’t tear through your locks mindlessly. Being too aggressive will only cause damage, and no-one wants to contend with fluffy, split ends.
  • You should be brushing your hair twice a day, once in the morning and once before going to bed, for about a minute each time, ‘correctly’. Brushing from the roots causes damage – always brush from the bottom and work up, especially if you have long hair.
  • Use gentler tools, like a wide-toothed comb or brush, especially when your hair is wet to avoid snapping and static. Soaking wet is weaker, fragile and more susceptible to breakage.
  • If you are planning to use heat on your hair, first off, make sure it’s all brushed out. Add the heat protectant, brush that in and then actually start working on it. As we all know, heat isn’t very good for your hair and shouldn’t be used every morning.
  • If you’re prone to greasy hair, then use a little dry shampoo in between washes to soak up excess oil. Although, avoid becoming too reliant on dry shampoo as it can cause build-up on the scalp and clog hair follicles, which can impede hair growth. If you really struggle to avoid frequent washing then remember that certain styles work better – and look better – on hair that isn’t freshly washed. Braids, bedhead buns and twisted topknots are all great looks for those in-between wash days.
  • Think of your hair like your skin – what you put on it will affect it. Investing in good quality products and tools will keep hair looking and feeling healthy and strong.
