After what feels like an eternity of quarantine skincare, and minimal zoom-meeting makeup, this Eid promises a much-needed return to bold, fun makeup…

When the first wave of the pandemic hit, many of us were quick to dismiss makeup as frivolity; it was so easy to switch to a minimal effort into getting ready. Collectively we had gone back to basics, and makeup was plainly nonessential. However, as time went by and we were locked in, dipping back in makeup was a way to find some semblance of normalcy. Even now, our professional and social lives are scaled down, and we’ve withdrawn inside, playing with makeup is gaining that same enthusiasm as before.

Since Eid this year will again be celebrated in lockdown, many have resorted to simpler outfits or even repeating one. But, the good news is, makeup will be your best friend to really spruce up your festive look. After what feels like an eternity of quarantine skincare, and minimal zoom-meeting makeup, this Eid promises a much-needed return to bold, fun makeup…

What better way to make a statement than with a classic red lip.

Glass skin

We’re still in the realm of 100 Watt skin glow and glass skin. A healthy looking skin makes everything look great and this has been the mantra all of yesteryear. Glass skin is basically dewy, clear skin with lots of glow. Now, since real glass skin needs you to be drinking gallons of water, following your skincare routine and well, time and patience, here’s how to get the look with the marvel of makeup. First off, cleanse your face and moisturise well to prep your skin. Then, apply a pea-size amount of a face primer – preferably a hydrating one. Pick a liquid foundation that gives a dewy finish on the back of your hand – for drugstore the L’Oréal Infalliable is great – and blend it with a damp beauty blender. Next, on top of your dewy base, apply some highlighter to the high points of your face for the glass-like effect. This concludes your glass skin and now you can build up your look from here.

Dangling jewellery will add the festive oomph that you are looking for this Eid, as showcased by Designer Nisa Hussain for FPW this year.

Rosy cheeks

To complement the glass skin, it’s a good idea to opt for rosy and peachy pinks for the summer. Not only does this colour give you a fresh and youthful look, it gels in the theme of natural and minimal makeup.

Let your outfit shine through by keeping your makeup more natural – glass skin, rosy cheeks, glossy lips with a neat bun – like Zaha Couture does at the ramp of FPW.

Expressive eyes

This one seems like a no-brainer. With our masks on, our eyes do the most communication in any interaction. So, playing around with eye makeup is what we look forward to the most this year. Colour has such a power to uplift us so dip your brushes into bright eyeshadows. Find yourself reaching for far-out shades you never would’ve used before, like a baby blue lid, glitter or a neon shade. Whether you are opting for a smokey eye or some graphic eye look, the world is your oyster. You can also add texture to your eye looks by adding pop art washes of colour across the lid with two multi-texture liners.

Take inspiration for bright and vibrant hues for your festive attire from the designer label ‘Tabya’ at the ramp of FPW this year.

Bold yet natural brows

This is the easiest and most overlooked way to groom your brows. Brushing them in an upward motion will reveal their ideal shape and instantly lift the face. Set brows in place using a brow gel or wax, clear mascara, or even a little bit of hairspray on a spoolie. If you don’t have a spoolie, you can wash an old mascara wand with dish soap and turn it into a perfect eyebrow brush. While you are filling in your eyebrows– powder or gel – you can continue to brush them. Choose a colour that is one shade lighter than your eyebrow shade to achieve a natural look. If you find that you applied too much powder, try gently pressing on the brow with your clean fingertip to soften the look. In case of a gel, gently pat the excess off on a makeup wipe.

Let this bronzey red smokey eye be your makeup inspo for Eid.

The glossy & bold lips

With so many people ditching lipstick in 2020, we can expect to see bold, bright lips make a triumphant return in 2021. Even though we still have to wear our mask when we step outside, we can still flaunt our bold lips in close-knit private gatherings and video calls. It’s a simple trend that elevates any outfit and brightens up your mood. And what better way to have bold lips with a classic red lipstick. Don’t be shy to dip into some nice burgundy and violets too. There many to choose from the likes of M.A.C, Lucious Cosmetics and Color Studio. Moreover, glossy lips are also making a comeback, so this would be a good time to dust off your shiny lip toppers and glosses.

Spruce up with accessories

Eid is incomplete without having some desi accessories in the mix. Dangling jhumkies and chunky necklaces add the much-needed festive oopmh to even a seemingly plain outfit. So, dust off those old bangles boxes, mix and match some chooriyaan, add some festive jewellery to really get that Eid vibe going...
