Few years back, I was browsing Facebook and came across some funky T-shirts that were, to put it mildly, so Pakistani! I dug deeper and found hoodies and footwear. The brand had an equally ‘attractive’ name, Maknatees (Magnet).

Something Pakistani

Few years back, I was browsing Facebook and came across some funky T-shirts that were, to put it mildly, so Pakistani! I dug deeper and found hoodies and footwear. The brand had an equally ‘attractive’ name, Maknatees (Magnet). Surely a smart name for such innovative products.GREEN VIBES

For some time now, I have been thinking about doing a piece on Maknatees. What better time than now with Independence Day  just two days away. After all, it was this day when Maknatees actually started its operation. Taking a look at its products, it doesn’t come as a surprise as to why they launched the brand on 14th August, because of the sole fact that Maknatees is a patriotic company and its products are truly Pakistani. They wanted to highlight the side of Pakistan that no one really focuses on. They infused those Pakistani elements with a little jazz and created funky designs, instantly striking a chord with the youth.

Maknatees is an online retail brand that has products every Pakistani can relate to. The words, phrases and designs used on their products are intriguing and catchy, and hence attracts your attention immediatedly. From T-shirts to hoodies, they have imprints of Pakistan that every Pakistani loves and owns with pride.

Maknatees is basically a fresh and funky idea targeting the youth. They understood if they want to project the positive side of Pakistan, they needed to focus on youngsters. And rekindling patriotism in our new generation required innovation.

For instance, the extremely loud and colourful truck that we pay very little attention to became a hot-selling item when it was termed “Tour de’ Pakistan”. Similarly, the “Saeein” shirts became an instant hit after the saeein craze just escalated a year back. The “AFR-420” is witty while “Kia Scene Hai” with the ‘seen’ of Urdu alphabet is purely smart and original. Along with this, they have a shirt with ECG design and Pakistan written in the centre with the ECG report, which is also very intelligent.

Since their idea of patriotism was gaining momentum, they realised their responsibilities and came out with a shirt that promoted the voting culture amongst youth. It clearly showed that we need to utilise our right to vote if we want to see a better and prosperous Pakistan. There is another design that focuses on our identity as Pakistani and not Sindhi, Punjabi, Baloch, Pathan or Muhajir.

With ideas like these, Maknatees soon became popular both nationally and internationally. They even took us down the memory lane. If you are a 90s kid, then you must remember Ainak Wala Jinn with its characters Nastoor, Zakoota Jinn, Samari Jadugar and of course, Bil Batori. These characters are household names and and their dialogues are still quoted by and large. Maknatees brought Ainak Wala Jinn back to us in 2015. Available in white and grey, today’s “Ainak Wala Jinn” is wearing 3D glasses. Along with this, they have also introduced a design “Intezar Farmaiye” which is the symbol we used to get on TV when transmission ended. Yes guys, there was a time when TV was not available 24/7 and was time bound.GREEN VIBES

Recently, they have come out with a few new designs to coincide with the Independence Day. Their “#Pakistan” is adorned in shirts and notebooks and is green in colour. A notebook and keychain with the design of Pakistan’s famous game Ludo will be launched soon and is expected to create quite a stir.

So this Independence Day, let’s celebrate Pakistan with everything green and close to our heart. If you still haven’t gotten anything for yourself or a friend, pay a visit to www.maknatees.com or facebook.com/maknatees
