Mango is one of the most popular fruits in the world. From Alexander the Great to Mughal emperor Jehangir, the collective obsession for mangoes has unified kingdoms, solidified trade relations, influenced myths and folklores. It is the national fruit of Pakistan. The country is the world’s sixth-largest mango producer.

Often dubbed as the ‘King of Fruits’, the godly mangoes are here to make the summer season sweeter. The Pakistani mango season typically runs from May to late September, with peak harvest months being June and July. Several mango festivals are happening in Pakistan during June and July. A three-Day ‘Family Mango Festival and Exhibition’, hosted by Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, at the Pakistan Maritime Museum, was recently concluded in Karachi. Whereas ‘The Lahore Mango Festival’ is being held at Emporium Mall, Lahore. The festival is on till 30th July, offering exclusive deals at over 300 varieties of mangoes.

In connection with the mango festivities, Ladiesfund, a renowned platform dedicated to empowering women, recently hosted a mango party at Buraq Centre, Karachi. The occasion was graced by the presence of over 75 esteemed guests from diplomatic circles, corporate sectors, developmental agencies, media, celebrities and fashion designers, all came together to celebrate mango festival.

To build unity and engagement, attendees wore yellow or orange – mango colours – in alignment with the occasion’s theme and adding to the vibrant milieu. Igloo Pakistan made artisan fresh mango ice cream for guests and Vital Tea served a variety of their signature chai. One could see a variety of mouth-watering mango dishes, prepared by enthusiast ladies, for instance Aatikah Hussain, one of the guests, created a special mango-themed cake for the occasion. Other than the announcement of raffle winner and prizes for Best Dressed and Best Dish, there were no speeches or fanfare, but plenty of opportunities for enjoying the delicious food, mingling, networking and professional friendship building across a very diverse and dynamic group of people.

“This is officially a mango party, but our community gathering is about building relationships between people who may not ordinarily meet and providing opportunities for them to work together as well as support each other’s projects and dreams through funding as well as basic friendship,” said Tara Uzra Dawood, President, Ladiesfund - Dawood Global Foundation, who hosted the event.
