Kiran Malik is a charming model and actor. Born and raised in Pakistan, she moved to Dubai and started her professional career as HR consultant and later started modelling. As a model she worked for various leading brands in industry including Firdous Lawn, Sana Safinaz, Barae Khanom, Shappire, and Lila by Saira Rizwan, etc. Malik has modelled for some of the big designers in the country, including Kamiar Rokni and HSY. She has also worked with international brands.

In 2018, she debuted in acting with the film ‘Pinky Memsaab’. In 2022 she starred in ‘Zarrar’, a thriller film written and directed by Shaan. Both her films were critically acclaimed. In her recently released film ‘Money Back Guarantee’, she is playing a comedy role. Soon, she will appear in TV dramas too. You! talks to this beautiful actor about her current endeavours…

Tell us about your role in MBG?

Actually, MBG is a male-centric film. However, my role has a very crucial place in the story. I must say that it is an intelligently written character. Faisal Qureshi, the director of MBG, was kind enough in a way that after casting me for that character, he also sat with me in script reading sessions. I have never done a comedy role before MBG. The film is running on a very twisted angle so if I tell you more, it will reveal the story and spoil the interest of viewers.

BEAUTY TALK

How you are feeling about appearing on small screen?

I am pretty excited. My first television project will be on air soon. I have done a drama serial which is directed by Saba Hameed. My co-stars are Mikaal Zulfiqar, Durr-e-Fishan Saleem and Javed Shaikh.

Tell us a little about your character in the serial?

My character is of an independent woman who is running the house and has taken charge of everything. This character is very close to my heart. She is a depiction of all women who are working hard to have their fair share in the society.

Since you have explored both dramas and films, what do you enjoy more - films or dramas?

Film. The atmosphere and pace of film is totally different whether it is a big picture or small indie project. I enjoy working in drama as well. This medium is more intimate and gets you closer to your character. So, I would say film and dramas are two entirely different ball games.

How do you keep yourself updated with the latest style and fashion?

I have always been fond of fashion. I wear whatever I want to. But yes at the same time, I also keep an eye on fashion from all over the world. With social media, it’s very easy for one to keep abreast with latest styles. Another inspiration might be my father, who was a very well dressed man. One doesn’t have to wear designer or expensive clothes but, one has to have good taste.

Up, close and personal with Malik…

Tell us about your beauty regimen. What’s the secret of your flawless skin?

Firstly, I take care of my skin. For this, I have many laser treatments done. Then I use creams like day and night creams. Sunblock is an essential part of my regime. I live in Dubai where the scorching heat can damage your skin badly and I have to spend most of my time in heat while modelling. So sunblock is something which I always keep with me. It is true that our skin needs more care when we age. I am not in my twenties now so I have to look after myself more. I put on less makeup and I think it is one of the reasons that my skin still is in better condition. It is not necessary that one needs a lot of money to buy expensive products for skincare. We can care for it with desi totke as well.

BEAUTY TALK

What are your favourite makeup products?

I don’t have a lot in my makeup kit. I usually prefer BB cream over foundation as base. I only use foundation, when on my shoots. So it starts with Chanel BB cream, then I generally wear two basic blushes by Tom Ford and Dior. For eyes, I use mascara by Dior and eyebrow pencil from Tom Ford. I complete my daily routine with lip gloss or lip pencil. That’s about it. I get ready in 10 minutes.

Do you prefer any particular makeup artist for shoots and special occasions?

I normally pick my own makeup artist with whom I am comfortable to work with. Nabila is always a priority while Khoji, who is a very dear friend, organises people for me according to my specifications. But yes, sometimes you have to go according to your clients’ preferences.

Who are your favourite international stylists and makeup artists?

Internationally, I have worked a lot with Toni & Guy, especially in the UK. For hair, I always call my trusted stylist, a Lebanese guy for the last seven years. While in Dubai, I usually do my own makeup and in London, I prefer Toni & Guy. Well, in Pakistan we have more choices.

One thing you can’t do without…

Sun Cream and lip gloss. Sun cream is the thing which I normally put on after every two to three hours regardless if I have my makeup on. I just tap it up. I have to do it as the heat in Dubai is very harmful for your skin. So, you will find sun cream in every bag of mine.

What do you do to keep yourself fit?

Oh. I love eating. I am a Punjabi and really fond of making and eating parathas. But, to keep myself fit, I have been doing Pilates for the last two years with my good friend Angalie. She has changed my whole lifestyle. Before that I used to go to the gym regularly. Besides Pilates, I do cycling. I have a cycling route near my house. In summers, I prefer swimming.

Any advice you want to give to women regarding their self-care?

Just take care of yourselves. It is not always about beauty but looking after yourself just to feel good. Sometimes you just want to dress up and style yourself. Another secret of self-care is to love yourself. I love myself. I am a mother but when it comes to self-care, I prefer having ‘me-time’ too.
