you & me

Young and talented, Komail Anam is a rising star. Though Komail’s first passion is music, acting is something he immensely enjoys. “I have completed my diploma in hospitality business management from Pearson University, London. He started his acting career in 2021 with drama serial ‘Sinf-e-Ahan’. “My parents Khaled Anam and Tehmina Khaled both belong to the media industry, so I feel part of the entertainment industry since I was a child,” says Komail who firmly believes in upholding his family values. These days he is showing his acting skills in drama serial ‘Wehshi’ besides working on an original song. In a candid interview with You! Komail talks about his love for music and acting and shares some of his likes and dislikes with our readers...

KOMAIL ANAM

Who is your mentor in the entertainment industry?

I don’t really have a mentor in the industry but I do take advice from my parents and also value the advice and guidance of some senior actors or directors who have been around since a very long time.

How did you get started as a musician?

Music has always just been in the family. My dadi was a singer, that skill transferred to my father and then it transferred to me. I am mainly a vocalist, however, I do play guitar as well.

What is music to you?

Music to me is expressing yourself, telling a story and connecting to a feeling which takes you somewhere far from everything and close to what you love.

What kind of music do you like?

I enjoy all sorts of music; however, I mainly listen to eastern music. That includes geet, ghazal, classical and contemporary film music.

Your claim to fame song:

Not yet. Currently, I am focusing on launching my first original song but I do have dreams of releasing my own album someday.

Who was your favourite star when you were in your teens?

Atif Aslam. When I was young, I used to listen to a lot of film music. I am a huge fan of Sonu Nigam and KK. Now, I take inspiration from artists such as Ustad Ghulam Ali Khan, Hariharan, and Mohammad Rafi. I am also a huge fan of Arijit Singh when it comes to play back singing.

Who is your favourite music composer?

I love Pritam, Shankar Ehsan Loy, A.R. Rahman, Laxmikant Pyaraylaal and many others.

You have recently ventured into acting. What attracted you to become an actor?

Just curiosity towards the craft attracted me. It is definitely different from music, yet a little similar - the ability to express yourself through your work.

What are some of the perks of being a son of celebrity parents?

None, really. At the end of the day it’s all up to how your work is and whether you are accepted by the audience. However, I am more aware of how to go about things; making correct decisions when it comes to work.

One thing you like best about yourself?

I never give up. Even if the world turns upside down. I am just too stubborn to give up.

What do you usually wear in daily life?

A pair of jeans and buttoned shirt with sneakers or kurta pajama with flip flops.

Your favourite brands?

I am not really a brand person, I’d wear anything as long as it suits me and I like it.

What is your favourite thing in your closet right now?

I used to have a very secret diary but don’t have it anymore.

I am afraid of losing or missing out on someone I love.

Your most valuable possession:

A harmonium which my (late) taya gifted to me.

Your favourite hangout:

Wherever I am with my favourite people.

What is your dream project that you would love to work on?

I would definitely love to work in a series or a serial where I get to play a character who has many shades. I see myself doing this in the future. Also my dream is to sing lots of songs and perform all around the world one day.

The most important relationship lesson I have learnt so far…

Never give up on your loved ones and learn to let go of their bad doings, focus on making yourself better and always be the first one to make a sacrifice if the relationship is worth it. Life is too short.

Successful and happy.
