I am a new reader, and this is my first letter to you. I must say that I really enjoy reading Us. It has a nice balance of articles, stories and information, but what it lacks is entertainment.

First timers’ corner

Hi Ed,

I am a new reader, and this is my first letter to you. I must say that I really enjoy reading Us. It has a nice balance of articles, stories and information, but what it lacks is entertainment. Ed, people my age are into movies, stars and shows and want to read celeb news. ‘The Green Room’, although very good, does not cover every aspect of entertainment. My suggestion is to publish more about celebs; interviews, reviews of Pakistani moviesand news about theatre, too and their interviews and about Pakistani movies and theatre too.

Basit Alvi, Karachi

Dear Ed,

I have been an avid reader of your magazine for many years, but this is the first time that I have decided to pick up the quill and write to you. Us has been doing a wonderful job in fulfilling the recreational demand of the youngsters of the country. For me, it has been a must read for many years. The wide variety of various topics offers a colourful palette to whet one’s appetite. I have also sent my entry for the story writing competition. Once again, I would like to wish all the best to Team Us.

Shaheer Liaqat

Dear Ed,

Let me tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed the cover story ‘Baat se baat banti hai, Conversations, just!’ (Nov 18) by Rutaba Tanvir , and the illustrations by Narmeen Allahwala were simply good! ‘An open letter to my baba’ by Maheen Aziz was also very touching; the writer expressed the feelings a daughter has for her father in a moving way. Generally, girls idolize and love their dads, but, somehow, refrain from displaying their emotions. Good job, Maheen. Rest was all cool, so keep up the good work.

Hey Ed,

As far as the magazine is concerned, it is going good. I liked the cover story by Rutaba Tanvir, and all the regular sections were enjoyable. My complain, however, is that the advertisement on the cover page looks really lame. It simply spoils it. Please do something about it.

And, since I have made one complaint, I might as well make another. The magazine I get is not stapled, which is very irritating. I realize that this is not your fault, but please convey it to the concerned department.

Jawad Siddiqui, Rawalpindi

Hey Ed,

I am an undergraduate student, living in Lahore. I wouldn’t say I read Us magazine regularly, but it’s one of my favourite mag. I presumed that you guys would never have something on sports (maybe) because we have been doing poorly in cricket and have nothing to do with football or tennis. Being a big sports fan, I always prayed to read some sport-related stories in your mag. So this Friday, my prayer was heard and Us made my day (sorry, I thought bad about you guys, I regret that now). Loved the cover ‘Real Madrid Foundation Campus Experience’(Nov 25) by Sameen Amer. Just wondering if Real Madrid dream would really come true.

Rest is well, keep up the good work!

Self-effacing Selena

Dear Eddy,

I never liked Selena Gomez; I always thought she had an attitude problem (some might not agree with me on this). But after listening to her speech at American Music Awards ceremony, my opinion of her changed drastically. She looked decent and sounded too polite for a popular young pop star.  Seriously, not many come on stage like her and say such heartfelt words for their fans. I am sure her diehard fans must have wept after hearing her say, ‘And I have to say thank you so much to my fans, because you guys are so damn loyal, and I don’t know what I did to deserve you.’

US MAILReflection

Narrated by Al-Ahnaf bin Qais (R.A)

While I was going to help this man (‘Ali Ibn Abi Talib), Abu Bakra (R.A) met me and asked, “Where are you going?” I replied, “I am going to help that person.” He said, “Go back for I have heard Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) saying, ‘When two Muslims fight (meet) each other with their swords, both the murderer as well as the murdered will go to the Hell-fire.’ I said, ‘O Allah’s Apostle! It is all right for the murderer but what about the murdered one?’ Allah’s Apostle replied, “He surely had the intention to kill his companion.”
