With changing times and the influx of international brands in high-end purpose-built malls, it’s obvious for local brands to want to up their ante in order to retain their customers. Recent times have seen both Khaadi and Nishat introduce affordable Western wear that meet the needs of the local market in terms of designs and sizes. Joining this string of labels is local brand QnH that unveiled its new Western wear clothing line, Kulash, on Tuesday, January 12 through a fashion presentation at its outlet in Dolmen City Mall, Karachi.

“Our design team realizes that Pakistani women are changing; the way they dress, use social media for checking trends and more importantly, the way they shop is also changing. With Kulash, we are trying to address the fashion needs of our confident, talented, multi-tasking young ladies of today,” the co-founder of the brand Kulsum Halai said in a press statement. “We always deliver quality products to our customers through QnH and, this time, we have taken one more step and added uniqueness to the products, designs, patterns and affordability.”

The new range of outfits includes a mix of formal and casual wear of crop tops, leather jackets, ripped jeans and even lounge wear, along with accessories to go with it. And while they appear to be of decent quality, one can’t help but relate some of them to be cheap rip-offs of high-end designer wear. Case in point: a particular black and pink organza skirt is very similar to a piece from Muse’ popular PSFW collection.

Even though QnH has existed on the local retail scene for almost 15 years now, the label hasn’t managed to attract the kind of success associated with good, high-street labels in the country including the likes of Khaadi, Daaman and Sheep or even textile houses like Nishat and Al Karam Studio. Hopefully, the induction of Kulash, that’s meant for the young, urban sector, will change the game for QnH and will be a welcome addition to the local market for affordable Western wear which is rather a mixed bag in terms of fashion-savvy designs.
