After joining forces for Wonder Woman, the actor and director have teamed up for a limited series called I Am the Night.
Nearly all major actors have done television or are in the process of signing on for a role. Amy Adams can soon be seen in Sharp Objects. Penelope Cruz made her television debut in the limited series from Ryan Murphy, American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace and Meryl Streep is starring in the upcoming season of Big Little Lies, which includes movie stars Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon as executive producers and cast members.
The latest artist to join this list is Chris Pine whose biggest projects include the revamped Star Trek films, Wonder Woman and the critically acclaimed Hell or High Water.
Though the actor is scheduled to star in another Star Trek film as Captain James T. Kirk and Wonder Woman 1984 in which he will reprise the role of Steve Trevor, the actor can be seen in the limited TV series, I Am The Night early next year.
Directed and executive produced by Patty Jenkins, who also directed Chris in Wonder Woman, the TNT series has a killer trailer that was unveiled recently. The critics are loving it and so are we.
“The trailer,” reports Variety, “sees Chris Pine as an investigative journalist working to uncover dark secrets surrounding local girl Fauna Hodel, played by India Eisley.”
“Patty is just directing the daylights out of it,” Chris had said about the director before Wonder Woman‘s release in 2017. “It’s shot beautifully. It feels so wonderfully period, but also with this wonderful pop sensibility.”
“Chris’ skill, talent and generosity blew me away, every day. Making that kind of performance look easy is epic badass. He’s a beast,” noted Patty about Chris during Wonder Woman days. So it’s no surprise that they have revived their creative partnership via I Am the Night.
The noir trailer has won over critics and that’s no small feat in the age of Netflix where TV series keep popping up from networks, streaming services and other platforms.
Writing about the trailer, Vanity Fair noted, “The fact-based story revolves around a girl named Fauna Hodel (India Eisley) who finds out she’s adopted, then runs away from home, determined to find her birth parents. The trail leads her all the way to the sinister Dr. George Hodel, a suspect in the Black Dahlia murder (for the murderinos out there: the real-life Hodel’s son, Steve Hodel, is a Los Angeles detective who has also accused his father of possibly being the Zodiac Killer and committing numerous other murders. Very chill, nothing to see here!). Pine plays Jay Singletary, a ‘former Marine-turned-hack reporter/paparazzo,’ as TNT puts it, which is one hell of a character journey.”
“He closes in on Fauna’s story, determined to find the truth at the bottom of this grim rabbit hole. This is his Nightcrawler, baby. As the trailer unfolds, it becomes clear that Fauna’s journey also ties to some dark, cult-y circles of the Eyes Wide Shut variety. So that imagery, cradled by the trailer’s rickety score, makes for delectable nightmare fuel.”
The limited series consisting of six episodes is written by Sam Sheridan and Monica Beletsky and will make its debut in January 2019. Chris Pine and Patty Jenkins will also serve as co-executive producers.
