Following Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja’s wedding festivities

It’s a wedding that both excited and exhausted every Bollywood fan because it felt like we were all there. Instep gives you the lowdown.

The festivities began on Sunday, May 6, with a mehndi ceremony that saw Sonam and Anand make their first appearance together. Sonam looked lovely in an Anuradha Vakil salmon pink and lavender outfit. She was all decked up and colour coordinated with her beau but her hair and makeup was refreshingly simple. Sonam later changed into a heavily embroidered beige chikankari outfit by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla for her sangeet, which as expected, was a very high energy affair.

It’s a wedding that both excited and exhausted every Bollywood fan because it felt like we were all there, in Mumbai, for Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja’s 3-day wedding, which is all that mattered to fans this past week. Did we all follow the hashtag #sonamkishadi obsessively? Yes, guilty as charged! The footage was delightful; it covered glamorous, traditional wedding looks, star studded evenings and high octane non-stop action on the dance floor. We found it hard to pinpoint one favourite outfit, moment or dance because everyone from the bride’s suave dad, Anil Kapoor to Ranveer Singh, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and even Karan Johar was in his element. You haven’t seen anything if you missed Karan Johar’s solo acts at the reception on Tuesday. Most people hire choreographers for perfecting dances for weddings but you don’t need a dance instructor if you yourself have created some of the most iconic dances of all time!

Sonam got married in a traditional red lehnga designed by Anuradha Vakil for the Anand Karaj, which is the traditional Sikh wedding ceremony. Her outfit was accompanied by traditional jewellery - a sarpech on her head, a gold choker, a raani haar and haath phool. Videos from the ceremony were both endearing and sincere, leaving fans completely in love with the couple.

The Anand Karaj was attended by friends and family, which looked like all of Bollywood royalty. This image of Kareena Kapoor with Saif Ali Khan carrying Taimur Ali Khan, however, was an absolute favourite. Fans gushed over the littlest nawab, his pink kurta, pony tail and his tiny chappals.

The reception was the most well-attended wedding function we’ve ever seen; it was also the most fun. Father of the bride, Anil Kapoor was in his element as he danced tirelessly to all his hit songs, reviving the Ram Lakhan time. Ranveer Singh was life of the party. Shah Rukh Khan danced the night away, at one point joined by Salman Khan…and Karan Johar was delightfully, unapologetically entertaining.

While sticking to the traditional dressing theme for most of her pre-wedding events, Sonam (who by now had changed her name on social media to Sonam Kapoor-Ahuja) opted for a modern look at her reception. She wore a chevron patterned lehnga paired with a grey choli and metallic dupatta, from Anamika Khanna. Anand wore a classic black and white sherwani. It was noted that both broke away from tradition; Sonam wore neither sindoor nor her mangalsutra and Anand went with Nike trainers with his sherwani.
The reception was extremely well attended but this young couple, Ranbir Kapoor in Manish Malhotra and Alia Bhatt in a lime green Sabyasachi Mukherjee lehnga, caught everyone’s eye as they turned up together.
