In most recent news, his last book, the acclaimed Exit West is nominated for L.A. Times Book Prize for Fiction. The novel deals with issues of emigration and refugee crisis in the current era.
Finalists for the book prizes, which are awarded in 10 categories, include Carmen Maria Machado’s Her Body and Other Parties and Gabriel Tallent’s My Absolute Darling in the first fiction category; Mohsin Hamid’s Exit West in fiction, and Angie Thomas’ The Hate U Give in young adult literature.
Other notable books to appear among the finalists include Jonathan Eig’s Ali: A Life in biography; Claire Messud’s The Burning Girl in fiction, and Ivy Pochoda’s Wonder Valley in the mystery/thriller category.
Mohsin Hamid’s Exit West has also been nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Awards, which are considered among the most prestigious in American literary awards. Moreover, his acclaimed novel, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, was also shortlisted for the Nobel Prize in 2007.
The awards and the winner will be announced on April 20 on the eve of the L.A. Times Festival of Books.
