Shaan Shahid’s Arth and Amir Mohiuddin’s Rangreza opened in cinemas across Pakistan (and beyond) on December 21, witnessing low box office numbers. Despite a long weekend due to Quaid-e-Azam’s birth anniversary as well as Christmas, the combined five day figures of both the films are lower than the three-day weekend business of Verna alone, according to Ali Zain of Box Office Detail.

Featuring Shaan Shahid, Humaima Malick, Mohib Mirza and Uzma Hassan, Arth: The Destination has raked in around Rs 1.35 crore at the end of 5 days (Monday) while Gohar Rasheed, Urwa Hocane and Bilal Ashraf starrer Rangreza collected a total of Rs 1.29 crore at the local box office. While both films stand close to each other in terms of footfall in Pakistan, Rangreza is leading the game with Rs 1.78 crore worldwide whereas Arth is following closely with 1.32 crores by the end of its opening weekend.

According to reports, this holiday season has been underwhelming for the box office. With one of the most anticipated films of the year, Tiger Zinda Hai, banned in Pakistan and a low footfall for local releases, cinema business has remained poor this season. The last release of the year, Chupan Chupai that stars Ahsan Khan and Neelam Muneer, comes out on December 29. Whether it fares well on the box office or not, remains to be seen.
