The recent addition of social dramas on our TV screens offer a change of pace from regular serials that merely focus on marriage, love affairs and familial ties. Though it has become more of a trend and looks like a publicity stunt to create hype, these drama serials at least offer something different and aim to bring some positive change in society.

Karachi: The recent addition of social dramas on our TV screens offer a change of pace from regular serials that merely focus on marriage, love affairs and familial ties. Though it has become more of a trend and looks like a publicity stunt to create hype, these drama serials at least offer something different and aim to bring some positive change in society. One such example is Saba Qamar-starrer Baaghi that is inspired by the life of Qandeel Baloch and focuses on issues that confront young women in rural areas. Another project that will talk about women’s rights and empowering them to take decisions for themselves is Angeline Malik’s upcoming drama serial, Mujhay Jeenay Doh.

With an ensemble cast including Gohar Rasheed, Hania Amir, Sarmad Khoosat, Mehreen Raheel and Nadia Jamil, the play will tackle the issue of child marriage. The teasers have started coming out and hint at an emotionally gripping narrative that will hit TV screens on September 11.

A press con was held to introduce the play to the media and the cast and crew in attendance shared their experiences of working on the project; they highlighted the importance of bringing tough social issues to light through television.

Child artist Eman Sher was the highlight of the event and had the best speech to deliver on the subject; she actually sounded more grounded and mature than Hania Amir. Eman pointed out how important it is to focus on issues like child marriage that are affecting a lot of young girls across the globe and that she hopes the play helps to make a difference.

Hania Amir, who plays one of the protagonists in Mujhay Jeenay Doh, shared, “I had a very good experience working with such an amazing team where everybody is really supportive. It’s fantastic that Angeline thought of this concept because people are very scared of talking about these things. These issues are prevalent all over the world but all of us stay quiet about it. I hope you guys like it.”

Mujhay Jeenay Doh has been written by ace writer Shahid Nizami while it has been directed and produced by Angeline Malik in collaboration with the Center for Communication Programs Pakistan and support from Palladium Pakistan.
