Two of the most anticipated Pakistani films of the year, Nadeem Baig’s Punjab Nahi Jaungi and Nabeel Qureshi’s Na Maloom Afraad 2, released this Eid ul Azha and so far have been running successfully in cinemas. While the upcoming months will see the release of Rangreza and Chupan Chupai among other films, those that are currently under production include Shoaib Mansoor’s Verna that stars Mahira Khan as a rape survivor.

The film’s official poster that came out recently features a gritty Mahira Khan whose expression is a display of anger simmering just underneath the surface. Supporting scars on her hands, it is in complete contrast to Khan’s earlier forays into cinema.

Not surprisingly, this poster has been welcomed positively by fans and celebrities alike. Moreover, it has also been praised by journalists from across the border.

The best one belonged to a Mumbai-based journalist, Faridoon Shahryar who took to Twitter and shared his views on the poster. “Stunning poster of Verna with a gritty-n-stoic Mahira Khan in an arresting pose...directed by Khuda Ke Liye director Shoaib Mansoor.”

Moving on to Pakistani celebrities, two actors – Humayun Saeed and Fahad Mustafa – who are currently leading the box office with their latest cinematic ventures took to Twitter to appreciate Mahira Khan after the release of Verna’s poster. Saeed praised her in these words: “Kamal meri guddi jee” while Mustafa tweeted, “All the best @TheMahiraKhan bajee…looking forward.”

Adnan Malik, who recently wrapped up shooting for his upcoming big screen project, Cake, also tweeted, “Love the intensity of this poster! I’ve heard amazing things about your performance, can’t wait!” whereas writer-director Vasay Chaudhry said, “And the real ShoMan returns.”

Given the love and appreciation pouring in for the poster of Verna, we hope the film lives up to expectations.
