Singer Haroon’s animated television series Burka Avenger has been doing rather well for itself. The series, which is Pakistan’s first 3D animated TV series, has multiple awards to its credit. Also, the lead character, Jiya, who fights social issues such as corruption and child labour, was named as one of the most influential fictional characters of 2013 by Time magazine.
Furthermore, the series’ success has travelled all across Pakistan and made its way to our neighbouring countries India and Afghanistan. In fact, the show was received very well in India as Aparna Bhosle, deputy business head of Zee Network’s channel, ZeeQ had earlier shared: “Burka Avenger is an amazing show - both in terms of quality of animation as well as storytelling. We are always on the lookout for shows with themes that are relevant to Indian children and we are very fortunate that we have this show.” Currently, the series airs in India on Zee TV and in Afghanistan on Tolo TV and Lemar TV.
Now, it seems that Jiya will be packing punches all the way in Indonesia. An Indonesian broadcaster, ANTV has acquired the children’s series. This will be the first time a Pakistani show will be aired on the Indonesian channel.
