The Khumariyaan boys are everywhere. Literally. They are travelling and performing all over the world and have become quite popular on social media thanks to their original, authentic music as well as creative covers (such as their rendition of the Game of Thrones soundtrack.)

The Khumariyaan boys are everywhere. Literally. They are travelling and performing all over the world and have become quite popular on social media thanks to their original, authentic music as well as creative covers (such as their rendition of the Game of Thrones soundtrack.)

It has now been confirmed that the Pashtun band will be performing in London on a very renowned platform: The Alchemy festival by Southbank Centre (SC). For those of you who don’t know, Alchemy is SC’s annual cultural festival that showcases music, dance, art, fashion and literature from the UK and South Asia. Now in its eighth year, Alchemy has grown to become the largest festival inspired by South Asian culture outside of the subcontinent.

Funoon London made the announcement on their Facebook page: “The big news we’ve been promising – we’re SO delighted to announce that we’ll be presenting the amazing Khumariyaan – the intoxicators - at Alchemy at Southbank Centre this May! They’re an instrumental band from Peshawar whose beautiful, beautiful music is built around the fusion of the rubab and the guitar, and celebrates the spirit and soul of Pashtun music. It’s going to be electric, powerful and FREE!”  The band will be performing on 20th May, 2017.

While the ten day festival is filled with interesting sessions and performances, other segments that really got our attention are sitar master Ravi Shankar’s performance for Alchemy’s opening night, which will feature the London premiere of Shankar’s last composition, the opera Sukanya, and Pakistani writer Mohammed Hanif’s keynote session, being held in partnership with Karachi Literature Festival.
