The Internet is having a field day with Taher Shah’s newest single and we don’t blame them at all.

For hours, people around the globe had been refreshing their newsfeeds to see if Taher Shah’s new music video was out. Parties and soirees had been organized just for the launch and we heard that FPW’s management took extra steps just to ensure that the show ended in time for the online release of the video. And after much a due, the moment arrived the minute the clock struck 12 on Friday night and before we knew it, internet sensation Shah’s newest song ‘Angel’ was the talk of the town, literally.

Based on themes of peace and harmony, the song calls out to the mankind to unite and stand together in these times of distress and despair; to discover the angel that resides within us and embrace one another with arms wide open. It’s an adorable effort on Shah’s part to use his musical genius for such a good cause.

It’s funny how our nation has a knack for producing such unique individuals – from Meera to Qandeel Baloch to Salman Ahmed and the ever-so-famous and award-winning (yes, believe you me he won the American Prestige Award last year for ‘Eye to Eye’) Taher Shah – and yet the world fails to take us seriously. These frequent displays of talent have time and again put Pakistan on the global map (particularly on top of all Google and YouTube searches) and they have been nothing but a source of sheer national pride (Virat Kohli has been longing to replace Afridi just so he could get Qandeel’s attention). And whoever thinks Pakistanis are a bunch of illiterates, needs to look at how well-versed these people are; their vocabulary is almost always on point (even John Lennon has never used the word ‘jovial’ in his lyrics).

But if only this was all true. Shah’s latest offering is no musical genius; in fact it is the death of it, if at all. We sure as hell need angels to come down from heaven but only to save us from this travesty of a song and take Angel Shah and his ever-growing family back to wherever they belong, since Earth is as it is struggling with population control. Let’s first have a moment of silence for the time and efforts invested in designing the masterpieces that Taher, his angelic bride and his kids were donning. They really brought out the twinkle in their eyes, and wiped away any that existed in ours. Special mention to the peek-a-boo neckline for putting an extra emphasis on the hairy angel’s defining feature; it truly is a work of art. To the organizers of Bank Alfalah Rising Talent Show, you know who to call…NOT.

Moving on, Imran Khan could really learn a thing or two from Shah’s heartfelt speech and words of wisdom – this is tabdeeli in its truest form for no other sane Pakistani musician would have been capable of this. But hey, who are we to say anything? The man has over 134k followers on social media and about 129k have already viewed the song. We can only pray for their quick recovery from the injury they may have suffered from listening to the song while we go catch a breath ourselves.
