LISBON, Portugal: Gates to the fifteen thousand square meters Sand City are swinging where sand sculptors have carved masterpieces out of forty-five thousand tons of sand.

FIESA International Sand Sculpture Festival has a massive tribute to historical folks – ongoing with a larger and whimsical version of history and classical icons standing sculpted at Pera, Algarve.

The Sand City, in its sixteenth annual edition, has over 80 iconic scenes carved from theatre, dance, music, literature, cinema, comics, television and related genres.

This year’s sand art renovation comes with some of Portuguese culture like Torre de Belém, Carmen Miranda and the mythical Adamastor, while sculpted tributes also go to historical icons Jim Morrison, Wolgang Amadeus Mozarti, African leader Shaka Zulu, Zé Pedro, Beethoven, Frank Zappa, Elvis Presley, Alexander Bell, the Vikings to name a few.

The annual fifteen thousand square meters canvas to this year’s setting will stay woke through November 10 – carried with daily sand sculpture workshops, concerts, films and fine night lighting to illuminate the exhibitions.

You’ll also come across Justin Bieber sculpted there.
