Second Multan Literary Fesival begins at BZU

Students and visitors thronged to a rich and prestigious second Multan Literary Festival started at Bahauddin Zakariya University on Wednesday.

MULTAN: Students and visitors thronged to a rich and prestigious second Multan Literary Festival started at Bahauddin Zakariya University on Wednesday.

The festival would continue for the next two days as eight  well-reputed organizations have been engaged in hosting the mega event, depicting Multan’s ancient culture like the hand made art of Naqasshi, traditional pottery work, calligraphy and books at colorful stalls.

The mega activity is being collaborated by Punjab Higher Education Commission, National Book Foundation Pakistan, Radio Pakistan, Multan Tea House, Multan Arts Counil, Academy of Letters Islamabad, Multan Chamber of Commerce, Nawaz Sharif Agriculture University Multan, University of Education Multan campus and other leading literary organisations based in the city.

The Punjab Higher Education Commission chairman Prof Dr Nizamuddin inaugurated the festival and he said that promotion of indigenous culture is compulsory bringing peace, tranquility and tolerance in the society.

He urged the need of organising such literary festivals on monthly basis, adding that if the education institutions are unable in providing literary festival activities to youth, they might indulge in negative activities. He assured that the Punjab HEC would continue helping education institutions in holding such positive activities in the future to promote curricular activities in universities.

Speaking on the occasion BZU vice chancellor Prof Dr Tahir Amin said culture is the prime identity of nation, which continues among people since centuries. There is a need to strengthen culture on strong footings. He said the second MLF provides an opportunity to local writers, poets, intellectuals, calligraphers to introduce their work among youth.

On the occasion, Prof Dr Tahir Amin  said that  the prime objective of holding the second consecutive Literary Festival is transferring Multan’s ancient history, culture and traditions to the next generations. He says the festival would be milestone in reducing anxiety in the society by providing substitute of literature to youth.

“We are hosting the second MLF after receiving warm response by students as well as civil society in the first Literary Festival held in April last”, said one of the organizers Dr Farzana Kokab.

The National Book Foundation representative Murtaza Ahamed said  the second Multan Literary Festival has been begun at multiple places including Bahauddin Zakariyia University, Multan University of Education and Multan Tea House.

The second Multan Literary Festival ctivity would attract the youth with rich centuries old art, culture and literature of Multan, one of the oldest city of world.

The MLF-2 organizing committee comprising of Prof Dr Muqarrab Akber, Prof Dr Abdul Quddus Sohaib, Prof Dr Aqeela Bashir and other members.
