Chinese take the lead for constructing World's largest tunnel on mountains

The Chinese have made the world's largest high-altitude tunnel and have named it Zhegushan Tunnel.
It measures a whopping 8700 meters and lies at an altitude of 3,200 meters.
The tunnel has cut down the travelling time from one hour to half as now the drivers can easily cross the mountain.
The tunnel is one of the main projects of Wenchuan Maerkang Expressway and links southwest China.
The construction took place under extreme weather conditions where oxygen was low, geological conditions were tricky, a great deal of glacial debris flow and difficult to manage disaster control.
No information has been provided so far about when the tunnel will be opened for use.
