Widow’s Bay star Stephen Root makes 'heartwarming' confession about Emmy win

Widow’s Bay star Stephen Root was completely surprised when his name was called at the 78th Emmy Awards.

For those unaware, Root, who played the role of Wyck in the American horror-comedy television series created by Katie Dippold for Apple TV, stood victorious by winning an award in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

While conversing with PEOPLE magazine after winning an award, the 74-year-old American actor admitted that he felt “like a mistake” when his name was announced as the winner.

He told the outlet, “The fact that Widow’s Bay has gotten so much attention from the Academy and all these people is just really heartwarming.”

When he was asked about what he will do with his big win, the No Country for Old Men star shared, “I’m gonna put it with my wife’s dad’s Golden Globe, up in our office, put it right next to it.”

In addition, Root went on to share his thoughts on the upcoming sophomore season of Widow’s Bay, stating that he aims to learn more about the boat captain, a key proponent of the island’s mystical curse.

Referring to his bond with Mayor Tom Loftis, played by Matthew Rhys, he said, “At the end of the season, we were actually very close together, working for the same thing, different directions, but I’m hoping that they’ll be collaborative in the second season.”

“I’m hoping we’ll get to see more backstory in the second season — of everybody in the show. Cause I think that’s what people love, is they get to love these characters, they want to know more about them,” Root stated.

It is pertinent to mention that Widow’s Bay has been renewed for a second season; however, Apple TV has not yet announced the release date. Watch the trailer for the first season.
