Stephen Colbert to make late-night show comeback?

It seems like Stephen Colbert is not done with hosting late-night talk show, as he hinted at his late-night TV plans.

Four months after Stephen bid farewell to The Late Show, he revealed at the 2026 Emmy Awards where he stands now when it comes to making a comeback.

“I think the Jimmys have got that locked down for right now,” he told E! News, referring to Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel as they also host their own late-night shows.

Stephen then joked, “For an unemployed person, I’m very busy.”

The talk show host's wife, Evie McGee, also joined him on the red carpet and quipped about Stephen's busy schedule, saying that he even "forgets" to tell her things.

Stephen, who is currently writing a new Lord of the Rings movie, responded to Evie's complaint, joking, “There’s no internet in Middle-earth, my man.”

The award night was special for Stephen as the host took home the award for Outstanding Variety Series, his third Emmy so far as The Late Show’s host.

The 62-year-old TV personality said in his acceptance speech, "Thank you so much on behalf of the over 200 people who threw themselves at this show for 11 years to try to do the best show they possibly could for you."

Stephen further noted that late-night TV is a “fantastic incubator for young people to come in to learn to work professionally.”

“Over the last 21 years, I’ve interviewed at least 1,000 of you. Thank you for coming on to talk to this idiot. I want you to know that you were the perfect guest," he added.
