'Heartbroken' King Charles reacts to devastating news

King Charles has reacted to ‘devastating flooding’ that has struck the Nepal-China border, saying he and his wife Queen Camilla are ‘heartbroken’.

The palace released King Charles statement on social media handles.

The palace shared the post with caption, “A message from The King to all those affected by the tragedy on the Nepal-China border.”

King Charles says in his message, “My wife and I are heartbroken to hear of the devastating flooding that has struck the Nepal-China border.”

The monarch continues, “Many in the United Kingdom have strong, deep and personal ties to this part of the world. We send our most profound sympathy to all those who have so tragically lost their loved ones and we feel deeply for the many families awaiting anxiously the news of friends and relations.”

“Our special thoughts and prayers remain with all those affected and, as always, the United Kingdom stands ready to help support those in need,” he added.

Flash flood has killed hundreds in Nepal and Tibet and toll is expected to rise.

Rescuers searched for survivors in the debris-strewn valleys and hillsides of Nepal on Thursday while more than 1,000 people remained missing there and in neighbouring China after a wall of ice, mud and rock collapsed into a mountain river, triggering a catastrophic flash flood.

Authorities in Nepal used helicopters to search for survivors and drop emergency supplies to thousands cut off in towns and valleys in the wake of Wednesday's disaster, which swept down a route thronged by trekkers and pilgrims that links Kathmandu with Lhasa in Tibet.
